Midland Metro operates 16 trams, numbered 01–16. Some trams have been named after local figures.
The Metro's trams were built by Ansaldo at their factory near Naples, Italy, and are designated T69 (Manchester's Metrolink trams are T68 and T68a). The units have two carriages with a short articulated section in the centre, and are 24m (80ft) long. The top speed is 50mph, but the trams operate within road speed limits when running on-street. Each tram is accessible for wheelchair users.
The system uses 750vDC overhead power supply with single wire pantograph current collection.
The original standard Midland Metro livery of blue body, red front, grey skirt and yellow doors, with a green stripe seperating the blue and grey, is applied to most trams. This has now been replaced by a new Network West Midlands livery (Network West Midlands is a brand name of Centro, the transport authority), comprising a silver body, magenta skirt, magenta area of the cab window and blue doors. So far two trams have been painted in the new livery, the first of which is 09. For pictures of the new livery, see this page
