Cyprus station is named after the nearby Victorian estate of Cyprus, itself named in honour of the British colonisation of that Mediterranian island. As well as serving this residential area, the station is next to the Docklands campus of the University of East London, itself part of the royal docks development area.
The station is sunken in the centre of a roundabout on Royal Albert Way. Access is from a footway to the north, and directly into the UEL campus to the south.
On the roundabout on Albert Way which circles Cyprus station is this sign

Westbound (City) platform at Cyprus—the station's position in the centre of a roundabout on Albert Way can be discerned. There is no access from Albert Way—instead there are entrances/exits to footpaths on either side of the line, one of which can be seen in this picture. Note the ticketing area surrounded by the red 'compulsory ticket' line
